Test Driving a Used Car Somerville NJ

Whether you’re test driving a new or used vehicle you’re going to want to make sure it’s something you can afford first. There is nothing worse than falling in love with something and then realizing you can’t afford it. Once you’ve made sure you can comfortably afford the vehicle you’re looking at there are a few tips you should follow when you go to test drive it.

You’re probably pretty excited to hop on in behind the wheel and hit the open road, but before you do that you need to take a thorough walk around the exterior of the vehicle. Check for any scratches in the paint and dents in the exterior. After that check the condition of the tires by looking at the tread. Next we recommend taking a peak at the underside of the vehicle. Is there a ton of rust? Does anything look like its not sitting where its supposed to be?

After you’ve looked all around the vehicle and underneath, hop on in. Don’t get too excited though you’re only turning the vehicle on. Once you’ve turned it on get back out and check the headlights and taillights. Make sure they turn on and then test out the blinkers. While you’re checking out the taillights listen to the exhaust. Is it making any weird noises or does it sound good?

Now if you have kids it’s a good idea to bring their car seat with you. Don’t worry you don’t have to bring your child too if you don’t want to. You’re just going to want to make sure it’s an easy and painless process to put in and take out their car seat. Immediately after purchasing your vehicle is not the best time to find out that is a struggle to insert and remove your child's car seat.

Now that you’ve done a thorough walk around and you’ve tested out putting your child’s car seat in, it’s time to take a thorough look at the interior. Check out the condition of the seats, how many cupholders there are, where all the cupholders are located, and how many USB ports there are. You’re also going to want to sit in the back seat to make sure the seats are comfortable and offer up plenty of leg space.

From there you can take a seat behind the wheel and check out all the features up front. Is the driver’s seat comfortable? Is the interface easy to use? Once you’ve given the interior a thorough look through it’s time to adjust your seat and mirrors. After you’ve adjusted everything so you can see everything, it’s finally time to buckle up and hit the road.

While you’re out driving your going to want to get a feel of how touchy the gas and brake pedal are. You are also going to want to get up onto the highway so you can see how the vehicle accelerates. You’re also going to want to see how the vehicle handles going around corners.

Now that you know what to do when you take a vehicle out on a test drive it’s time to stop on by and see us here at Fullerton Auto Group.
